It is a Lack of Technology, Not a Lack of Willingness
Sonny James has received an e-mail response to his plea for captions on the movie trailers at Mac.com. According to the e-mail, the company would like to offer captions online..but lacks the ability to do so.

I have a hearing loss big time and need close caption on my TV. I had comcast and had close capton on my local channels HDTV. I switch to Dish Network and can not get it. They have told me its the TV the Tobasha says it them. Dishnet work has even told me it is the TV stations. I called them to and they just laughed at Dish Network.I have been argueing with them for 2 weeks now. 5,4,9, 62 channels are local and also says CC so I feel I should get this any ideas on this subject would very much be appreciatedI have a hearing loss big time and need close caption on my TV. How about your equipment? Try having a DVD player that doesn't show closed captioning of a movie that is labeled CC. That part I haven't figure out why it happens.
I like to get a list of DVD players that do let you show your Closed Captioning. Grr...
I went out to buy another DVD player - took me a while to figure out how to hook it up and play the DVD movie and I still don't get captioning!!! I do have captioning on my TV and on my VHS part of the player - they worked fine there. But for some reason the DVD player can't show it.
Does anyone know why this is occurring?
abartkoski - does the Dishnet's own receiver have its own CC mode in it ? When using HDTV, you don't use TV's CC decoder - it must be done within the receiver (also regulated by FCC). If still having problem talk with me at 3if032bhawbaker at 3if032qw3if032est.3if032net

Te problem is with Dish network. To read other comments on Dish Network go to www.tvweek.com/news.2007/06/closed_captioning_excluded_dip.php
File complaints with the fcc, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and request NAD (National Association of the Deaf) to get involved. This is discrimination and the law requires all channels SD and/or HD to be captioned. Its not your TV. You should get channel 140 (ESPN) and 9421 discovery hdthr) on Dish network they are closed captioned.

Maggie Kittens said that she could not get Closed Captioning from her DVD player. I had the same problem. After getting no help from either the TV or DVD manufacturers, I replaced the HDMI cable that connects the DVD player to the HD TV with the three video component cables. Voila, closed captioning came across from the DVD player immediately. Do not know why simply switching out cables did the trick. Actually, I left both cables attached to the DVD player and the TV. I can tell my TV which route to take for watching DVD's. If I am watching a non-closed captioning DVD, I use the HDMI connection. If I am watching a closed captioned DVD, I use the component cables.
I hope this helps someone.
